NAP-19 - 5° Real Calabria

ref. EK Castings NAP-19

EK Castings NAP-19 Officier porte-drapeau de la 5e régiment de ligne "Real Calabre." Naples, 1811-12

Succeeding to Joseph Bonaparte, Joachim Murat is King of Naples, from 1808- 1815 (See NAP-50)

The uniforms of the Army of the Kingdom of Naples are among the most interesting and varied of the Napoleonic era

Translated from Italian:
In 1809 the new king was the 3rd Infantry Regiment of Linea, organizing it on an original model formed by 3 battalions (4 in war) of 7 companies each (of which two choices of grenadier and revolvers) with a senior and one minor .
With minimal variations this became the structure-type of Neapolitan line regiments.
Also in 1809: Pointing to the rude and decisive character of the Abruzzi and Calabrian inhabitants, Murat also constituted two regiments of regional recruiting infantry regiments: the 4th "Real Sannita" and 5th "Real Calabria".
In 1810, in order to cover the losses reported in Spain and to the expedition in Sicily, the 6th Infantry Regiment of Naples Line was created, consisting of elements of the Municipal Guard of Naples.
Also in 1810: the 7th Infantry Regiment of "Real Africano" Line is formed (formerly Royal Africain), with incorporation of colored soldiers from immigrated to France from the French department West Indies and Saint-Domingue.
In 1811, at Zaragoza , was created the 8th Line Infantry Regiment, formed by the reinforcements sent from Naples to the 1st "Re" and the 2nd "Regina" line, regiments long-time engaged in the Spanish War.
On 1812 the Neapolitan army is engaged in Spain, Russia and Poland, against the powers of the Sixth Coalition . During this time, all the leverage and reserve classes were fully utilized, succeeding, despite the great effort, just to fill the losses suffered.
From the spring of 1812 , at the command of Murat, some 10,000 soldiers departed from the realm of Naples for the Russian campaign .
