Archibald Douglas (1290-1333) - Scottish warlord period of the struggle for the independence of Scotland.
Archibald Douglas was the younger brother of James Douglas, commander and ally of King Robert I of Scotland Bruce. In 1329, Robert Bryus died, and because of the infancy of the new king David II government in Scotland was weakened. He took advantage of Edward Balliol, immigrant and pretender to the Scottish throne. With a small detachment he landed in Scotland, he defeated the royal troops at the Battle of Dapplin-Moore and was crowned at Scone. In 1332 under the invasion Eduarda Balliolya, regent of Scotland for minor King David II Bruce Archibald Douglas was elected. As head of the army of supporters Bruce Archibald Balliol defeated the army at the Battle of Annan, December 17, 1332 and drove him out of the country. Balliol appealed for help to the English King Edward III, promising aid for this significant territorial concessions. In March 1333 the British army invaded Scotland and laid siege to the fortress and the port of Berwick. Those who came to the aid of the besieged city troops Archibald Douglas were forced to attack the English up the hill, breaking the front of this swamp. English archers quickly dispersed the attacking troops of the Scots and the English infantry counterattack completed the rout them. July 19, 1333 at the Battle of Halidon Hill, Archibald Douglas, several Scottish graphs and 4500 soldiers were killed. David II emigrated to France, and the power in Scotland until 1336 went to Edward Balliol.

Douglas helmet decorated with heraldic crest of a gilded lion on a turquoise hat, lined with ermine. Shield, cloak (surcoat) and Shoulders (Isleta) bear the image of the emblem: in a silver field a red heart; in azure chapter three silver stars. Personal standard is a white cloth with azure Trasversal lion and slogan; red hearts.
