Austrian Duke Leopold VI reign was a time of economic prosperity and cultural development of the Duchy with a stable international situation. At the court of the Duke creates a whole galaxy of prominent German minnesingers.
Ulrich von Liechtenstein played a role in the political events of his time and was thus a typical representative of courtly poetry. The cult of women, with all its excesses and passions, was the main interest of his life and the main subject of his works. This cult devoted to his two major works: courtly romance "Serving the ladies" - a sort of poetic autobiography, which describes the most strange and absurd adventures, and "Lady's Book", which are the subject of wrangling between men and women. He also created a theoretical treatise on love poetry and a number of love songs. His works he dictated the scribe, as he could not write.
Ulrich was a slave contingent chivalrous notions of honor and decency. Being married and happy in the marriage, however, he chose his mistress with another woman. To cater to this "Lady of my heart," he makes the most bizarre and ridiculous actions: corrects appearance, injure themselves, wandering in the form of Venus, in the form of King Arthur, is to fight all counterclaims Knights, arranges fights knights in dresses and so on.
Miniature in the "codex manesse" shows Ulrich von Liechtenstein nalatnom green robe and wearing a helmet adorned with a figure of Venus. The coat of arms is a shield with a gold and turquoise head chervlonoy rafters.
